Chufa is a traditional crop in L'Horta de València (Spain), historical agricultural system that has been recognised the register of Globally Important Agricultural Heritage Systems, managed by Food and Agriculture Organization United Nations (FAO), one six protected Mediterranean metropolitan horticultural fields as per European Environment Agency. cultivated for its tubers.
